Q. How many extinguishers do I need?
A. The number required depends on the nature of your home or business. Extinguishers should be placed near to where they are to be used, but not so close to the fire that will prevent you from reaching it. As a general rule in a business, one 9kg ABE for every 200 square metres of floor space.
Q. What types are needed?
A.
ABE for General purpose ( wood, paper, plastic, flammables, electrically energised equipment.)
CO2 for electrically energised equipment, computers, (not suitable for outdoor use).
Wet Chemical for deep fat fires in restaurants and take-aways (leaves no mess, like ABE's leave).
Q. What about positioning of extinguisher signage?
A. Minimum height from ground is 2 metres and signage must be above the fire extinguisher.
Q. What size extinguisher is needed in a vehicle
A. A minimum of 2kg but 2.5 would be a better option.
Q. What do fires need?
A. Fires need 3 things to exist FUEL, OXYGEN and HEAT - remove one of these and the fire will be put out.
